WHAT'S THE DEADLINE TO APPLY?

WHEN IS THE DERBY, AND WHERE IS IT?
Sunday, April 30th, 2023. The event takes place on Powell Ave. in Healdsburg, between Summer's Market and Revel Road. The event is free to the public.

ARE THERE PRIZES FOR WINNERS?
Trophies will be given to the fastest 3 cars, as well as trophies for creativity.

DO I HAVE TO BE FROM HEALDSBURG TO RACE?
No, but we do require participants to visit the race site prior to building their car.
IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT?
Kids need to be at least 7 to participate. Adults and kids will race in separate heats, with different start-lines.
DO I HAVE TO PAY A FEE TO ENTER?
Nope! It's free!
CAN I GET TECHNICAL SUPPORT?
We will organize twice-monthly zoom meetings for all participants to share ideas and get tips from professionals.

WHAT ARE THE BUILDING REQUIREMENTS?
All cars must be gravity-powered. No pedals or motors of any kind. Cars must have steering and a brake system. Cars must be able to easily fit in a standard road lane. All cars will be inspected by the pit-master prior to race.

CAN I USE A CAR I ALREADY MADE?
Sure, as long as it meets our requirements.

IS THIS AN OFFICIAL U.S. BOX DERBY RACE?
Absolutely not. This is a a different kind of derby that celebrates creative art cars as well as speed.

WHY PRUNE BOX?
The original derby cars were said to be made from soap crates. In Healdsburg, we used to be known for prunes, packed in prune boxes. So this is a nod to that history.
WILL THERE BE FOOD AT THE EVENT, AND CAN I BRING MY DOG?
Yes! There will be food and drinks. This is an alcohol-free, kid-friendly event. Please don't bring your pets, except for service dogs.
